Suspicious package found outside Medicine Hat church deemed safe as investigation continues

Medicine Hat police say their investigation is continuing after a suspicious package was found outside a church Thursday morning.

Police responded around 9:29 a.m. to a report of the package in a flower bed outside a church in the 2700 block of Southview Drive Southeast.

The area was secured, portions of Southview Drive Southeast were closed, and church personnel were evacuated while the police Explosive Disposal Unit assessed the package.

As a precaution, residents in the area were asked to shelter in place. Officers also went door to door in the surrounding neighbourhood to notify residents.
