The library isn’t just for reading books. Several different opportunities go beyond that this month.

Here are the top five things to do at the Medicine Hat Public Library in October 2026.

TIC TAC Presents: Sci-Fi Night (Oct. 9) and Halloween Pre-Party (Oct. 23), 6:45 p.m., Ages 13-19

At Sci-Fi Night, blast off and glow in the dark! Test your superfan knowledge at trivia, create your own alien and/or UFO, play some out-of-this-world games, and more. At the Halloween Pre-Party, we’ll have fun crafts, spooky board games and a pumpkin-carving contest. Dress up in your Halloween best! Doors open 6:45-7:15 only, then locked for your safety.

De-Stress Workshop, Oct. 17, 2 p.m., Adults

In partnership with Recovery Alberta, this free two-hour interactive workshop includes a basic discussion about stress and how we can recognize personal stress signs. We explore several coping skills and strategies, and participants will leave with a personal stress-reduction action plan. Register at mhpl.info/register.

Home Routes Concert Series: Bobby Dove, Oct. 20, 7 p.m., All Ages

Bobby Dove is a Montreal-born singer-songwriter and a magnetic presence in the world of country and Americana music. With a voice as powerful as their storytelling, this trans/non-binary troubadour pays tribute to the golden age of honky-tonk, while crafting original, emotionally charged songs. Tickets, $10, are available at the Info Desk.

Spooky Scary Scavenger Hunt, Oct. 24-Nov. 1, All Day, Ages 12 and Under

Oh no! Spooky, scary creatures have taken over the library. Help us find them all and solve the secret message to send them back home. If you can solve the puzzle, you win a small prize!

Werewolf: A Game of Trust & Betrayal, Oct. 31, 2 p.m., Adults

Will you be the hunter or the hunted? This classic game of deception, which inspired the premise of the hit reality TV show “The Traitors,” divides players into innocent villagers and hidden werewolves. Use logic, lies, and accusations to save your village before time runs out. Register at mhpl.info/register.
