MEDICINE HAT, AB – CAPE is the latest city school to move to online learning due to staff and students in COVID-19 quarantine.

Teresa DiNinno, superintendent of CAPE School, says online learning is already underway on Friday. She says two positive cases of COVID-19 have been identified at the school.

“We have three classes isolating and about half of the staff so responding to parental concerns and requests and staff concerns and requests. It was simpler and more efficient to simply transition to online learning for the whole school,” says DiNinno.

She says the school and everyone in it do their best in regards to health measures like physical distance, masking and limiting close contact. But DiNinno says the risk of further loss of staff was significant if they didn’t act quickly.

DiNinno says all students are already familiar with online learning and that it will be a smooth transition.

She says there will be “no loss of teaching or learning time at all.”

CAPE should return to in-person learning on May 11.

Notre Dame Academy and Alexandra Middle School have also moved to online learning.
