Apr 23, 2021 | 8:46 PM

Medicine Hat, AB-Notre Dame Academy has announced it is temporarily transitioning to online learning.

In a letter to parents, the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education says 4 cases of COVID-19 have been identified at Notre Dame.

The positive cases come from different grades which has resulted in at least 14 teachers being placed into quarantine.

The MHCBE says “it has become clear that we will not be able to provide enough qualified substitute teachers to replace all 14 teachers.” Due to operating concerns the decision has been made to transition to online learning beginning Monday, April 26th until Friday May 7th, 2021.

Students will be provided with online and paper based instruction.

According to a release from Alberta Health Services dated April 23, 2021, the Medical Officer of Health has started an investigation.

Public Health staff are trying to determine who may have been exposed to cases of COVID-19 at the school during their infectious period.

However, the release states “the risk of the general population in the school becoming infected because of these cases is very low.

The division also announced a positive case at Ecole St. John Paul II School. The division says all close contacts were identified and contacted directly, and that AHS indicates the school and unaffected classes can continue.
