🐅 Medicine Hat Tigers Training Camp

FRIDAY, SATURDAY and SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Tigers training camp began on Thursday and continues this weekend as they prepare for the 2026-27 WHL season.

Players will be split into four teams for a round-robin tournament running through Saturday at Co-op Place, with camp wrapping up Sunday with an intrasquad game.

All games are open to the public.

Friday features four games, beginning with Team Black versus Team Blue at 9 a.m. and Team Grey versus Team Orange at 11 a.m. The evening games see Team Grey face Team Blue at 5 p.m., followed by Team Black against Team Orange at 7 p.m.

The tournament continues Saturday with the third-place and fourth-place game at 10 a.m., followed by the championship matchup at 2 p.m.

Sunday’s intrasquad game takes place from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The Tigers begin preseason action Sept. 1 in Lethbridge against the Hurricanes, before hosting their first preseason home game at Co-op Place on Sept. 5.

🚌 Sunshine Trolley: Guided City Tour

FRIDAY, SATURDAY and SUNDAY

The Sunshine Trolley will offer guided tours of Medicine Hat from Friday through Sunday, giving visitors a chance to learn more about the city’s history and landmarks.

Tours run at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. each day, departing from the Medicine Hat Visitor Information Centre on Gehring Road S.W.

Friday’s tour will be guided by Sally Sehn, Saturday by Barry Finkelman and Sunday by Trevor West.

The tours highlight landmarks including Medalta in the Historic Clay District and the Ewart-Duggan House.

Guides also share the history behind Medicine Hat’s neighbourhoods and streets.

Children 12 and under ride for free.

The Sunshine Trolley has designated seating available for passengers with mobility needs and is wheelchair accessible.

🎪 Water Circus Nautilus

FRIDAY, SATURDAY, SUNDAY and MONDAY

The circus is in Medicine Hat this weekend in the Medicine Hat Mall Parking Lot.

The travelling circus Cirque Italia brings its Aquatic Spectacular to the city.

Water Circus Nautilus features a custom-designed water stage beneath the big top holding 35,000 gallons of water.

Performers from around the world will take to the stage for a variety of acts, including aerial performances, hand balancing and contortion.

Organizers describe the show as a vivid and dramatic experience combining circus arts with a modern production.

The water stage travels with the show as it moves from city to city, making it a central part of the performance.

There will be seven shows over four days.

Friday’s show is at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday’s are at 1:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., and 7:30 p.m.

On Sunday, the showings are at 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Then on Monday, there is a show at 7:30 p.m.

🎬 Movies at the Monarch Theatre

FRIDAY, SATURDAY and SUNDAY

The Monarch Theatre is screening three films this weekend, including Grease, Practical Magic and The Parent Trap, marking its first full weekend of movies since renovations were completed.

On Friday, Grease will screen at 7:30 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Practical Magic will be shown at 7:30 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

The weekend wraps up Sunday with a 3 p.m. screening of The Parent Trap, with doors opening at 2 p.m.

Tickets are available for $5 cash only and can be purchased at the door.

📽 Movie Night in the REDI Parking Lot

FRIDAY

A free outdoor movie night is planned for Friday at the Regional Economic Development Institute on Allowance Avenue in Medicine Hat.

The Princess Bride will be shown at dusk in the parking lot at 860 Allowance Ave. Attendees can arrive as early as 8 p.m. to choose a spot.

Free popcorn and soft drinks will be available while supplies last.

People are encouraged to bring family and friends, along with folding chairs.

🎸 Punk Rock at The Yard

FRIDAY

Punk rock bands The Anti-Queens and Brutal Youth are set to take the stage at The Yard in downtown Medicine Hat on Friday night.

The concert begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.

The Anti-Queens, founded by singer-songwriter Emily Bones in 2012, have built an international following with their energetic punk sound and tours across Canada, the United States and Europe.

The Toronto-based band will be joined by Brutal Youth, known for its fast, hook-heavy punk anthems.

🚶 Historic First Street Southwest Walking Tour

SATURDAY

Residents and visitors will have an opportunity to explore a lesser-known chapter of Medicine Hat’s history during a guided walking tour of First Street SW this weekend.

The Historic First Street SW Walking Tour is scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., taking participants along the tree-lined boulevard and highlighting the area’s history before it became part of the city.

Organizers say First Street SW was once outside Medicine Hat’s city limits and was originally homestead land.

The tour will explore how the area connects to the broader history and development of the community.

Local guides will lead the approximately one-hour walk, sharing stories, memories and lesser-known details about the neighbourhood along the way.

The tour begins at 78 First St. SW.

Participants will receive a complimentary walking tour guide.

Organizers recommend participants dress appropriately for the weather and bring items such as a hat, sunscreen and water.

The route includes uneven walking surfaces.

The tour is weather dependent and rain dates may be rescheduled.

Space is limited, with advanced booking recommended.

Organizers also note that the tour may be rescheduled if registration is low. Tickets are available through tixx.ca.

🏍 Hearts and Handlebars for Dionne

SATURDAY

A fundraiser featuring a motorcycle and vehicle run will be held Saturday, with proceeds supporting Dionne’s son and daughter.

The ride honours Dionne, who died in a head-on collision in June 2026. Her daughter was also injured and continues to recover.

The Hearts & Handlebars for Dionne fundraiser begins at 10:30 a.m. with riders and drivers leaving from Badlands Harley-Davidson in Medicine Hat and Honda Magic in Brooks.

The run will make stops at Hayes Campground at 1 p.m. and the Redcliff Hylton at 2:30 p.m. before an after-party at the Irvine Hotel beginning at 4 p.m.

The afternoon event will feature live music, steak and burger specials and a live auction.

📚 Activities at the Medicine Hat Public Library

SATURDAY

Saturday is full of activities at the Medicine Hat Public Library.

Fresh Brew and French Conversations goes from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

It’s an opportunity to converse in French with friendly Hatters, however, it is not a language class. Light refreshments are provided.

A Neurodivergent Young Adult (18+): Peer Support Group takes place from 11 a.m. to noon.

A peer support group run by neurodivergent young adults with support from members of the Medicine Hat Autism Society. It is a safe place for neurodivergent young adults (autistic, ADHD, and more) to visit and learn about resources that may be available to them.

El Club de los Sabados runs from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. An opportunity to converse in Spanish with friendly Hatters, however, it is not a language class. Light refreshments are provided.

A wrap-up party is being held for the Reading Quest. It’s for ages 7 to 12 and runs from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. It’s an opportunity to trade Reading Quest cards and enjoy fun activities.

Drop-in Bracelet Making runs from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for a chance to create a bracelet.

🏠 Gas City Kiwanis Centre Open House

SATURDAY

Local clubs and community groups will open their doors Saturday as the Gas City Kiwanis Centre hosts an open house aimed at helping residents discover new hobbies and connect with others who share their interests.

The Gas City Kiwanis Centre Open House will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event is a collaboration between the Gas City Kiwanis Centre Society, Medicine Hat Rock and Lapidary Club, Medicine Hat Fish & Game Association, Grasslands Naturalists, and Cypress Hills Area Girl Guides.

Visitors will have an opportunity to learn more about the groups based in the building, watch demonstrations and speak with members about their activities and interests.

The Medicine Hat Rock and Lapidary Club will showcase club equipment, hold demonstrations and offer public rock identification. A silent auction will also be held.

The Medicine Hat Fish & Game Association will host a $5 barbecue featuring a hot dog, water and other items.

Cookies, jewellery and other items will also be available for purchase throughout the open house.

Hourly door prizes will be awarded to people on site, and children can pick up goodie bags.

The Kiwanis Centre is located at 826 11th Street SE.

🛻 Monster Madness at the Speedway

SATURDAY

The Monster Madness and FMX World Tour will make a stop at Medicine Hat Speedway on Saturday, with two shows featuring monster trucks and motocross stunts.

The event will feature 10,000-pound monster trucks competing in racing, wheelies and freestyle events, along with FMX riders performing stunts and tricks, including backflips.

The first show starts at 12:30 p.m., followed by an evening show at 6:30 p.m.

Fans can also attend a pit party before each show to meet drivers and FMX performers, get photos and autographs, and see the monster trucks up close.

The VIP pit party runs from 10:30 a.m. to noon for the afternoon show and 4:30 to 6 p.m. for the evening show, while general admission pit parties run from 11 a.m. to noon and 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Tickets are currently $32 for adults, $20 for children and $48 for VIP admission, with prices increasing by $5 on the day of the show, and are available for purchase on ticketpro.ca.

Children aged two and under can attend free when sitting on an adult’s lap.

🎸 Mini Porchfest

SATURDAY

Music will be played on a porch in the Hill area on Saturday afternoon as Medicine Hat hosts a Mini Porchfest to help mark the end of summer.

The event is scheduled for 2 p.m. at 445 Belfast St. SE.

The outdoor concert will feature local Medicine Hat performers Penthouse Trauma with Presley Battle, along with Calgary bands The Polite Stripes and Stunt Husband.

Organizers are inviting residents to come out and enjoy.

🪲 Interpretive Centre Programming

SATURDAY and SUNDAY

Families and nature enthusiasts will have a chance to get up close with insects this weekend during two free programs at Police Point Park.

The Interpretive Centre and the Nature Centre host Buggin’ Out: An Insect Exploration on Saturday from 3 p.m to 4 p.m.

Participants will head out on a family-friendly bug safari searching for signs of insects that jump, fly and crawl.

Nets, bug pots, pocket microscopes and kid-friendly cameras will be provided to help participants examine what they find.

The program is open to everyone, and registration is not required.

Minors, however, must be accompanied by an adult.

Participants can also visit the Nature Centre’s current Insectopia display, which is scheduled to remain on display until the first week of September.

The insect-themed programming continues on Sunday with Bug N’ Sketch from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

The program will explore the differences between insects, spiders and other small creatures, while also examining why the word “bug” is commonly used to describe them.

Participants will use handheld field microscopes to take a closer look at specimens without disturbing them.

They will then draw and label what they observe.

The program is also free and open to the public, with participants under 13 required to have a chaperone. Materials will be provided.

Both programs are made possible with support from the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation.

🐎 Cypress Showdown Rodeo in Maple Creek

SATURDAY

The Cypress Showdown, a Canadian Cowboys Association Rodeo, goes this weekend in Maple Creek at the High Chaparral Arena.

There will be two performances packed with rodeo action and plenty to watch.

Saturday’s performance begins at 5 p.m. Sunday will have slack at 9 a.m., with a performance to follow at 2 p.m.

Rodeo events at both the pro and novice levels include bull riding, saddle bronc and bareback. Also included at the rodeo are tie-down roping, steer wrestling, both ladies and junior girls barrel racing, breakaway roping, team roping, junior steer wrestling, and mutton busting.

Competitors include a blend of locals with some coming from as far away as Australia and New Zealand.

Tickets are available at the gate for $20.
