🚎 Sunshine Trolley: Guided City Tour

FRIDAY, SATURDAY and SUNDAY

The Sunshine Trolley: Guided City Tour, fuelled by South Country Co-op, is running multiple times this weekend in Medicine Hat.

The tours offer an in-depth guided experience led by local Medicine Hat residents, highlighting the history of neighbourhoods and streets, as well as some of the city’s most recognizable landmarks.

Stops along the route will give passengers the chance to hop off and briefly explore key areas before continuing the tour.

Pick-up is at the Visitor Information Centre at 330 Gehring Rd. SW

Children 12 and under ride free thanks to sponsorship from the Medicine Hat Mavericks.

Tickets are required and available online at the Tourism Medicine Hat website.

Tours are about 90 minutes and are scheduled Friday and Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., and Sunday at 10 a.m.

🌿 Medicine Hat Interpretive Centre Programs

FRIDAY, SATURDAY and SUNDAY

Several activities are underway at the Medicine Hat Interpretive Centre at Police Point Park this weekend.

On Friday from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. is a free event where you can explore why some plants aren’t green and learn about the survival strategies of native plants. The group will take a slow walk through the park, practicing plant identification by sight.

On Saturday, StoryWalk in Police Point Park begins with storyboards set up through Sept. 19.

Families can combine reading and the outdoors with the launch.

The Medicine Hat Public Library and Medicine Hat Interpretive Program are teaming up to feature Finding Wild by Megan Wagner Lloyd, with illustrations by Abigail Halpin.

Children who complete the StoryWalk can pick up a token at the Nature Centre and exchange it at the library for a prize.

Tokens are available Tuesday through Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Also on Saturday, a Plastic-Free BBQ & Sustainability Market will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It includes a free community BBQ focused on reducing single-use plastic waste, local sustainability vendors, live music, and family-friendly activities. You are encouraged to bring your own reusable plate and drink container if possible. The Y Treasure Thrift Store will also have plates and cups available.

On Saturday evening, Summerween Storytelling goes from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the fire pit behind the Nature Centre. The event is recommended for ages 12 and older and is free to attend.

As evening arrives, gather around the campfire for local folklore, haunting legends and mysterious stories inspired by nature.

You’re also invited to bring a story to share—whether it’s a family campfire tale, local creature story or something you’ve created yourself.

It’s recommended to bring a lawn chair and a blanket, and if you’d like, marshmallows, s’mores supplies and non-alcoholic drinks.

On Sunday, there is a Plant Pressing Workshop from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a $10 cost per plant press. This event is fully booked, but there is a waiting list.

🏀 Battle in the Hat 2026, Carter Morris Memorial Basketball Tournament

FRIDAY and SATURDAY

Basketball players from across Medicine Hat are hitting the court this weekend for the second annual Battle in the Hat three-on-three tournament.

The event runs Friday and Saturday at Medicine Hat High School, with junior and senior boys and girls divisions, and a mini-kids co-ed division.

Organizers say the tournament is held in memory of Carter Morris, a young member of the community who died following a struggle with mental health.

The event aims to bring athletes and families together while raising awareness around youth mental health.

Games on Friday start at 5 p.m., with the last ones underway at 7:15 p.m.

Saturday has games starting at 9 a.m., and playoffs underway at 2 p.m.

🍔 Downtown Days

Downtown Medicine Hat is gearing up for two days of food, entertainment and family activities.

Downtown Days gets underway on Friday and continues through Saturday, with shopping, sidewalk sales, a classic car show, live music and a Kids’ Corner.

The event also features the Food and Beverage Expo, cornhole games, DJs and beer gardens.

Several downtown streets will close Friday at 6 p.m. and remain closed through Saturday, including sections of Second and Third Street Southeast.

Organizers are encouraging residents to support local businesses and check individual businesses for hours and activities.

🎽 Amazing Race for Hunger

SATURDAY

Teams will race across Medicine Hat and the surrounding area on Saturday for the 5th annual Amazing Race for Hunger.

The fundraiser challenges teams to solve clues and complete challenges, all while raising money for the Root Cellar Food and Wellness Hub’s Emergency Food Pantry.

Organizers say demand for the pantry continues as families face rising costs for food and other necessities.

People can follow the action with a live broadcast on the Root Cellar’s Facebook and YouTube pages, with opportunities to donate to participating teams.

The event will also feature an Amazing Race for Hunger 50/50 draw, with half of the jackpot going to the winning ticket holder and the other half supporting The Root Cellar.

The event begins at 9 a.m.

🚶 Historic First Street Southeast Walking Tours

Medicine Hat residents and visitors will have another chance to step back in time this weekend.

The Historic First Street Southeast Walking Tour returns Saturday, taking participants along the tree-lined boulevard once known as the Esplanade.

The one-hour tour explores the neighbourhood’s historic architecture and the stories of some of Medicine Hat’s earliest residents.

The tour begins at 10 a.m. at 401 First St. SE.

Organizers say space is limited and advance registration is required.

Participants are encouraged to bring water, sunscreen and sun protection. The tour is weather-dependent.

📽 Monarch Theatre reopens

SATURDAY

The Monarch Theatre reopens on Saturday during Downtown Days after recent renovations.

The day will feature a pair of movies starting with Cars at 3 p.m. and American Graffiti at 7:30 p.m.

Doors open for Cars at 2:30 p.m. and American Graffiti at 6:30 p.m.

Entry to each movie costs $5, with two concession items also $5.

Families can celebrate the end of summer at Echo Dale Farm’s Corn Fest this weekend.

The event runs Saturday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., offering an afternoon of family activities, food and farm animals.

The engines will roar at Medicine Hat Speedway Saturday night.

Racing gets underway at 6 p.m. with the doors opening at 5 p.m.

Saturday is also First Responders Day, presented by Servus Credit Union.

Police, fire, EMS, Search and Rescue personnel, BATUS and Canadian Forces members can attend free of charge with valid identification.

Organizers are inviting fans to come out for a night of racing at the oval.

All Classes are set to race.

🏈 U Sports Football Game at Methanex Bowl

SUNDAY

Medicine Hat football fans will get a rare look at U Sports competition this weekend.

The University of Calgary Dinos and University of Regina Rams will meet in a pre-season exhibition Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at the Methanex Bowl.

Three Medicine Hat players include the Dinos’ Ira Hozack and Baker Thompson, and the Rams’ Logan Wells.

Proceeds from the game will support football programs in Medicine Hat.

Admission is $10, with kids under 10 free.

Football players wearing their bantam or high school jersey will also get in for free.
