LETHBRIDGE, AB — Taylor Ross and Dylan Cozens scored just 70 seconds apart to open the third period, propelling the Lethbridge Hurricanes to a 5-2 victory over the Medicine Hat Tigers at the ENMAX Centre on Friday night.

The Tigers remain in the WHL’s Eastern Conference first wild-card position. However, they’re now tied with Red Deer after the Rebels scored five unanswered goals to defeat Brandon 5-3.

Lethbridge and Edmonton continue to sit tied atop the Central Division. The Oil Kings beat Calgary, who remain firmly in third place, 5-1.

Tied at 2-2 entering the final 20 minutes of play, Ross capitalized on a ‘Canes powerplay at 2:06. That served as the game-winner, with Cozens following up with the insurance marker at 3:16.

Jordy Bellerive and Zachary Cox added markers in the first and second periods respectively, and Nick Henry tossed home and empty netter.

Medicine Hat, who’ve lost nine of the last 10, collected goals by Baxter Anderson and Brett Kemp. It was Kemp’s first goal since returning from a minor lower-body injury on Wednesday, which forced him to miss three games.

Jordan Hollett takes the loss between the Tigers pipes with 26 saves on 30 shots, and Carl Tetachuk adds another victory to his resume with 28 stops.

There’s no shortage of drama to be found in the Tigers final four games of the regular season. The Brandon Wheat Kings make their way to the Gas City on Saturday, followed by a date with the Red Deer Rebels next Wednesday.

Medicine Hat wraps up the campaign with a trip to Cranbrook, B.C. to face the Kootenay ICE next Friday, followed by the season finale against Lethbridge next Saturday at the Canalta Centre.
