Medicine Hat city council officially terminates city manager Mitchell

Medicine Hat city council officially terminated city manager Ann Mitchell during a council meeting on Friday morning.

At the conclusion of a closed session of the council, it was moved that City Manager Ann Mitchell was found in violation of policy number 8047, Respectful Workplace.

Mitchell’s employment with the city was then terminated within the same motion, and her appointment as city manager was revoked with cause effective immediately.

A letter will be issued to Mitchell by the council providing reasons for the decision to revoke her appointment, terminate her employment, and provide reasons for concluding that Mitchell violated policy number 8047, Respectful Workplace.

All members of the council in attendance were in favour of the motion.

The former city manager was officially appointed to the position on Dec. 19, 2022, by the current council. She started the job in February 2023.

A special meeting of the city council on July 28, 2025, resulted in Mitchell being placed on temporary paid leave at the time.

During a council meeting on Sept. 29, 2025, it was disclosed by the city council that they were starting the process to fire the now former city manager.
