MEDICINE HAT, AB – The new city manager had a busy first day on the job.

Ann Mitchell says attending last night’s regular council meeting was a good way to start in the role.

“That’s what I’m here for to implement the council’s vision with the staff. That’s why we are here so good to hit the ground running,” Mitchell said following the meeting.

Mitchell brings more than 15 years of experience working with local governments in leadership roles. She moved here after serving as chief administrative officer of Lethbridge County since 2018.

She said one of her goals as the city manager is to find new ways to make operations run more efficiently around city hall. Building relationships with members of the community also tops her list.

Mitchell said she knew this was a great career opportunity after meeting with members of our council.

“They’re very progressive and they really want to get things done for their community and that’s one of the biggest things that we don’t see a lot,” said Mitchell.

“The council here is extremely invested as are the staff, so I think together we can really implement a good vision for the city so that’s what I’m excited about.”

Mitchell also expressed her interest in working with the city and council goals to create purposeful growth in the city.

“Local government is the jam in my jelly roll, it’s what gets me up in the morning,” said Mitchell, with a chuckle.
