Medicine Hat Cubs wrap up regular season, will meet Kings in second round

Feb 10, 2025 | 10:22 AM

The Medicine Hat Cubs have now wrapped up their regular season and are advancing into the playoffs with a bye.

The Cubs will play the Agra Risk Wheatland Kings out of Strathmore in a best-of-five second round playoff series set to begin next week.

The Cubs finished in third place in the Heritage Junior Hockey League South Division standings with 26 wins, 10 losses, and two overtime losses on the season.

That was good enough for 54 points, just one point back of the second-place Kings.

The Cubs and Kings met five times in the regular season with the home team winning each contest.

Wheatland taking all three games at home, with one contest going to overtime, and Medicine Hat winning a pair at the Kinplex.

The top two point producers in the Heritage Junior Hockey League regular season came from the Cubs with Kyle Woolridge leading the league in goals with 49 and points with 79, and Caleb Garrecht with a league leading 49 assists to go with 71 points.

The Carstar Okotoks Bisons who took top spot in the South Division will await the winner of a best-of-three series between the fourth place Cannex Cochrane Generals and the fifth place Coaldale Copperheads.
