Former city clerk Larry Randle appears to have started a temporary role at the Town of Coalhurst, according to his LinkedIn work history, after his departure from Medicine Hat was confirmed on Monday.

Randle has taken on the role of interim director of legislative services as of July, according to the LinkedIn update.

The town’s administrative staff page does not include his name as of early Wednesday afternoon. CHAT News has reached out for confirmation from the town.

Randle had not been seen at a public council meeting since April 23 when his departure was announced by Coun. Ramona Robins on Monday.

A source close to council, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told CHAT News last week Randle left largely due to “abuse” he received from members of the public.

Several councillors have since Monday expressed their support for Randle, describing him as kind, thoughtful and smart in the city clerk role.

“He was just fantastic, you could go to him with anything, ask him anything, he was always kind,” Coun. Shila Sharps said Tuesday.

After Monday’s meeting, Coun. Allison Knodel called Randle “a gem” during his time working with council and the city.

“He was a kind-hearted, sincere, thoughtful and caring clerk, and I was very lucky to sit next to him,” Knodel added.

“He’ll be missed.”
