Blind sports association makes Medicine Hat return

Alberta Sports and Recreation Association for the Blind is making a return to Medicine Hat in May.

The organization hosts recreational programs for those with visual impairments and will offer bowling, golf and a walking club in Medicine Hat to start, organizers said.

“Medicine Hat has been a goal for us to get into in the last year,” organizer Melissa Gagyi told CHAT News.

“It’s hard to find programs that you can attend and feel comfortable attending and feel like they’ll work for you when you have a visual impairment,” she added.

Medicine Hat program lead Daniel Harnack said he’s looking forward to it all coming together for a community that impacts him personally through his brother.

“My brother has a physical disability, so I’ve just been around the whole community in general,” Harnack said.

“I will be at every program, organize it, or I have to organize everything and then also be at the programs and facilitating them with our volunteers.”
