LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Alberta NDP is hosting an online town hall regarding the Canada Pension Plan.

The online town hall will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 6:30 p.m.

It will be hosted by Lethbridge-West MLA and Finance Critic Shannon Phillips and Samir Kayande, Alberta NDP Finance Critic for Fiscal Responsibility.

Former Finance Minister Jim Dinning said an engagement committee would look to hear from Albertans starting in October, but the NDP pointed out that no sessions have been held as of yet.

Phillips said, “We will be hosting an online town hall with Albertans who don’t support Danielle Smith gambling with their retirement security. The UCP may be too afraid to hear directly from people about this critical issue, but we’re not.”

The NDP launched a survey regarding Danielle Smith’s plans for the Canada Pension Plan, and according to a news release, it has been completed by 23,000 people.

Kayande said, “The UCP is wasting $7.5 million of Albertans’ money on an advertising campaign filled with make-believe numbers and assumptions designed to trick Albertans into handing over their CPP but the people I’ve heard from aren’t falling for it.”

Albertans wanting to attend the online town hall are encouraged to register in advance at the Alberta’s Future website.
