OTTAWA — Canada’s unemployment rate remained unchanged in September after the economy added 64 thousand jobs.

But most of those jobs, 48 thousand, were part time and that left the unemployment rate at 5.5 per cent for the third month in a row.

Alberta saw a decline of 38 thousand jobs, wiping out the 30 thousand gains that were made in July and August.

But the unemployment rate held steady at 5.7 per cent.

Saskatchewan’s unemployment rate fell half a per cent to 4.9.

Saskatchewan added six thousand jobs in September.

Statistics Canada reported average hourly wages continued to climb in September, rising five per cent from a year ago.
