Active cases continuing to drop

Two new COVID-19 cases in Medicine Hat and Brooks

Medicine Hat and Brooks have each recorded two more cases of COVID-19.

Medicine Hat now has 38 cases, eight active and 30 recovered.

Brooks has 1,092 cases, 52 active and 1,033 recovered. The number of deaths in Brooks remains at seven.

The new cases in Medicine Hat and Brooks are among a total of seven new cases in the South Zone. In the zone there 93 active cases and 1,122 recovered cases.

Across the province there are 865 active cases and 5,801 recovered cases. Two more deaths in the province bring that total to 134. Overall, Alberta has recorded 6,800 cases of COVID-19, 32 of which came in the past 24 hours.

Earlier on Friday, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney announced that Brooks and Calgary would be able to move into the next stage of its reopening on May 25.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw announced last week that she would begin scaling back the frequency of her in-person updates. The chief medical officer of health did not give one today and the next one is scheduled for Monday. The online numbers will be updated over the weekend as usual.

On May 11, the province began putting a more detailed chart online for each zone.

The County of Newell has 15 cases, three active and 12 recovered.

In Cypress County, they are reporting 10 cases of COVID-19, two active and eight recovered.

The County of Forty Mile and Municipal District of Taber each have two confirmed cases both listed as recovered.

Special Areas No. 2 has two confirmed cases, one recovered and one death.

The City of Lethbridge has 27 cases, 10 listed as active and 17 recovered. Lethbridge County has one recorded recovered case.
