🐍 Medicine Hat College Rattlers

FRIDAY, SATURDAY, SUNDAY, and MONDAY

Medicine Hat College Rattlers Athletics take place this weekend in and around the city.

The basketball teams host the Canadian Mennonite University out of Winnipeg for two days of exhibition contests. On Friday, the women begin at 5 p.m.; the men follow at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the women begin at 10 a.m., with the men at noon.

Rattlers soccer teams play at the College soccer pitch on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday, they host Olds College, with the women at 2 p.m. and the men at 4:15 p.m. On Sunday, Red Deer Polytechnic is in the city for games at noon for the women, and 2:15 p.m. for the men.

On Sunday and Monday, Rattlers Athletics hosts an ACAC Golf Regional event at Desert Blume. Tee-offs start at 10 a.m. each day.

🏈 High School Football

FRIDAY

Two high school football games take place at the Methanex Bowl on Friday night.

The McCoy Colts host the W.R. Myers Rebels of Taber at 5 p.m.

Then at 7:30 p.m., the Medicine Hat High School Hawks host the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute Rams.

General Admission is $5 at the gate.

🐯 Medicine Hat Tigers

FRIDAY and SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Tigers begin the regular season this weekend.

It’s also the start of Tigers broadcasts this season on Wild 94.5 with Will Bryant.

The Tigers travel to Lethbridge to face their Highway 3 rival, the Hurricanes, on Friday night at the Visitlethbridge.com arena.

Puck Drop is at 7 p.m.; the pregame broadcast starts at 6:45 p.m.

Then on Saturday, the Tigers will host the Hurricanes in their home opener at Co-op Place.

Puck drop for that contest is also 7 p.m.; the pre-game on Wild 94.5 begins at 6:30 p.m.

Long-time Tigers Broadcaster Bob Ridley will join Will Bryant for the pre-game on Saturday.

📽 Movies at the Monarch Theatre

FRIDAY, SATURDAY and SUNDAY

A superhero theme takes over the Monarch Theatre this weekend.

On Friday, the 2008 film Iron Man, with Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, plays at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday have 3 p.m. matinees.

The 2014 film Guardians of the Galaxy plays Saturday, and the 2004 film The Incredibles plays Sunday.

Doors open an hour before each movie starts, and admission is always $5 cash, with a cash concession set at two items for $5.

🏒 South Alberta Hockey Academy

FRIDAY and SATURDAY

The South Alberta Hockey Academy U17 Prep team hosts OHA Edmonton at the Big Marble Go Centre for two games this weekend.

Friday at 7:45 p.m. and Saturday at 3 p.m.

🚶 Historic First Street Southwest Walking Tour

SATURDAY

A Historic Walking Tour of First Street SW takes place Saturday at 10 a.m., continuing a series that follows earlier tours through the city’s historic neighbourhoods.

Once considered outside city limits and originally homestead land, First Street Southwest offers a look into some of Medicine Hat’s early development and growth.

The hour-long tour begins at 78 First St. SW and includes a complimentary walking guide provided for participants.

The event is weather-dependent and will be rescheduled if it rains.

Space is limited; you can book ahead of time through tixx.ca.

The final event in the Walking Tour Series is next weekend with the Historic Railroad District Walking Tour.

🍺 Oktober Fest at BrewCo

SATURDAY

Medicine Hat Brewing Company hosts its annual Oktober Fest celebration on Saturday, offering a full day of traditional German-inspired food, local craft beer, and community fundraising.

The brewery will feature a special food menu including giant pretzels, sauerkraut, and schnitzels, alongside its Oktoberfest Lager on tap and a selection of canned German-style beers.

As part of this year’s event, Medicine Hat BrewCo has partnered with the Medicine Hat Potters Association for a specialty pottery market featuring handcrafted steins.

Steins will be available for $60 each, and half of all proceeds are donated to the Sanare Centre. Event attendees who purchase a stein can fill it for $4 throughout the day and take it home afterward.

🪘 Miywasin Days

SATURDAY and SUNDAY

Medicine Hat is celebrating Indigenous culture this weekend with Miywasin Days.

The two-day event begins Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Saamis Teepee with a demonstration pow wow and the grand opening of the newly resurfaced dance floor.

Organizers say more than 30 dancers are expected, with prayers, traditional and fancy dancing, music and cultural presentations.

Sunday’s celebrations move to Police Point Park for a Métis kitchen party featuring fiddling, jigging, spoon playing and bannock cooked over a fire.

That event also starts at 1 p.m.

Both events are free and open to the public.

The South East Tigers U17 AAA Hockey team hosts a pair of preseason games against the Lethbridge Headwater Hurricanes.

🏒 Brooks Bandits

SATURDAY

The Brooks Bandits begin the regular-season schedule this weekend.

After a game in Blackfalds against the Bulldogs Friday, the Bandits host the Okotoks Oilers on Saturday for the home opener at Centennial Regional Arena. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.

A tailgate party will run in the CRA parking lot from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.

It will include bouncy castles, face painting, mini-games, and a classic car show.

The first 300 fans will also get a free hot dog from the Traditional Meat Market.

Game festivities will also include player introductions and a banner-raising ceremony for the 2025-26 BCHL champs.

🏁 Medicine Hat Speedway

SATURDAY

The racing season wraps up at the Medicine Hat Speedway on Saturday with Fan Appreciation Day.

All Classes will be racing.

Get $5 off admission, enjoy prizes and giveaways, and watch all five classes battle it out in the season’s final points race, with results cementing the season championship standings.

Hit to Pass #2 will follow regular racing.

Gates open at 5 p.m., with the green flag at 6 p.m.

🍽 Dinner in the Garden

The Root Cellar Food and Wellness Hub is hosting its final Dinner in the Garden on Saturday.

The event includes an evening meal with entertainment and a look at the Root Cellar’s impact and plans for its next chapter.

Tickets are $125.

It runs from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Maple Avenue location.

The Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre will host PechaKucha Night Volume 38 on Saturday.

Participants can run, walk, or wheel the accessible route.

Cancer survivor Jennifer Kerslake will speak at this year’s event.

The Medicine Hat Cubs wrap up their exhibition game on home ice on Sunday.

The Agri Risk Wheatland Kings from Strathmore will take on the Cubs at 3 p.m. at the Kinplex 1 Arena.
