Annual Terry Fox Run returns to Medicine Hat College Sept. 20

“Cancer looks different for everyone; it has no single face, and its battles are fought in many different ways,” Kerslake said in a release.

“While our diagnoses vary, our determination to beat it is exactly the same.”

Kerslake said sharing her story is a way to give a voice to people facing cancer and help build a sense of connection within the community.

Keith Walker, chair of the Medicine Hat Terry Fox Run organizing committee, said in a statement that residents can support the cause even if they cannot attend the event.

“Not everyone can join us on run day, and that’s okay,” Walker said.

“Everyone can play a role in carrying Terry Fox’s legacy forward, whether you attend the Run, make a donation, create a fundraising page or simply share Terry’s story; you’re helping fund life-changing cancer research.”

The Terry Fox Run has been held across Canada for more than 40 years, raising money for cancer research in memory of Fox, who began his Marathon of Hope in 1980 after losing a leg to cancer.

Organizers say donations support cancer research and help bring the goal of a world without cancer closer.

Residents can register for the Medicine Hat run, make a donation, volunteer or support a participant’s fundraising efforts through the local Terry Fox Run page.
