MEDICINE HAT, AB – Local member of parliament Glen Motz says he is thrilled and Canadians should also be by Pierre Poilievre’s resounding win in the Conservative Party of Canada’s leadership race.

Fresh from a caucus meeting in Ottawa on Monday morning, Motz says the party is united behind the new leader and is focused on returning hope to Canadians.

“Pierre’s message was very, very clear. Canadians can’t keep up with the increased cost of living, the increased taxes that this government keeps doing because of their out-of-control spending and borrowing and printing of money,” said Motz, adding the party needs to offer hope and practical solutions. “We’re willing to work with all parties but we will not compromise on areas of principal on matters that impact Canadian families and the work that needs to be done to ensure that they have hope again to restore some economic stability in this country.”

Poilievre had large support all across the country, winning 330 out of 338 ridings and 68 per cent of the vote nation-wide.

His support was even stronger in the Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner riding, where he got 83 per cent of the vote, 2,319 out of 2,787 ballots cast.

Motz described this morning’s meeting and Saturday evening after the result was announced as positive. He says party members are behind the new leader and supportive of the direction the party is going.

Motz says the party will aim to hold the Liberal government to account during the fall sitting of parliament.

As well, the Conservative party will begin to flesh out its positions on important local issues like energy and agriculture.

“We need to cancel Bill C48 and C 69 first of all when we form government and make sure that gets looked after properly. We have the most ethically produced and environmentally friendly oil and gas in the world and we need to use it for economic development,” he said. “Agriculture is certainly a big thing in our riding and we will ensure that our agriculture sector is supported and not hindered in their ability to provide sound food for and on the tables of Canadians and the globe.”

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Saturday that the House of Commons is scheduled to sit Thursday so MP can pay tribute to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and the opening of the fall session will be delayed one day to Sept. 20 to accommodate The Queen’s funeral.
