Redcliff Youth Centre continues to support youth throughout restrictions

REDCLIFF, AB – The Redcliff Youth Centre says the new provincial restrictions are unfortunate, but they are way more prepared to offer services online for youth the third time around.

Executive Director Janae Ulrich says they will continue and have been offering their programs online, as in-person activities were allowed at reduced capacity.

The centre has different activities which promote wellness, well being, as well as mental and physical health building.

Right now, their life skills program has doorstep delivery which includes supplies for the supper and hot lunch program.

Plus, youth are able to jump on a Zoom call and get instructions to make age-appropriate meals for their family.

The youth centre also loans bikes, scooters, skateboards, and safety equipment so youth can stay physically active.

Ulrich says they are still able to offer one-on-one time with youth.

“Making sure that our kids have access to the resources that they need and that their basic needs are being met. Food, safety, security, all of those things are super important. We do a referral service so we can connect community members to any additional resources they might need like the food bank or additional supports like counselling.”

Ulrich adds they are applying for another government exemption to have youth in-person at a reduced capacity. That approval process can take up to 10-17 days and must be approved by Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw.

There are no promises for an exemption, but she says the paperwork is worth it.

Ulrich says they have 223 youth registered at the Redcliff Youth Centre. With their online programs, they can see up to two dozen kids use their virtual services each week.
