Bassano RCMP investigating copper wire theft near Gem

Bassano RCMP are investigating the theft of copper wire from an oil site near Gem. The estimated value of the copper wire is $75,000 to $100,000.

Police say they received a report at about 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 12, after the theft was discovered. The incident is believed to have occurred overnight.

In addition to the stolen wire, significant property damage was reported at the site.

According to Mounties, the scale of the theft and the short time frame in which it occurred suggest multiple suspects and a vehicle capable of transporting the stolen material may have been involved.
