Brooks Bandits back in the win column after a 4-1 win over Nanaimo on Wednesday

Special teams played a strong role for the Bandits in Wednesday’s game. Dmitrijs Dilevka started the scoring at 12:57 into the first period with a power-play goal, assisted by Makaio Van Tessel and Alexei Zhukov.

Almost six minutes later, the Bandits extended the lead to 2-0 over the Clippers with another power-play goal. Scoring was Michael Kucherawy with assists to Christophe Lussier and Alexandre Monarque.

The Clippers struck back early in the second period, with Drew Roelofs putting the puck past Bandits’ netminder Emile Beaunoyer. The only goal he allowed on 30 shots.

Late in the second, the Bandits extended the lead to 3-1 on a Michal Marsalek goal, assisted by Zhukov and Dilevka.

Marsalek would end the scoring late in the third period with his second of the game, a short-handed empty-net goal, assisted by Alex Cleary and Jeremy Leroux.

Netminder Hugo Laring would stop 23 of 26 shots faced in the Clippers’ loss.

The Bandits return to action on Saturday at the Centennial Regional Arena when they host the Cowichan Valley Capitals for the 7 p.m. contest.

It will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
