Medicine Hat College Career Expo offers access to jobs, internships and career opportunities

Oct 6, 2026 | 1:59 PM

Medicine Hat College (MHC) will host the annual Career Expo, connecting job seekers, students, and community members with employment opportunities across Alberta.

More than 60 employers will be at the College on Wednesday for the free event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Centennial Hall and the B-wing.

Employers from healthcare, education, trades, technology, manufacturing, agriculture, policing, government and community services will be on hand to discuss current openings and career pathways.

Some organizations may also conduct on-the-spot interviews with candidates who come prepared.

The expo has grown from featuring 15 to 25 exhibitors more than two decades ago to more than 60 organizations participating this year.

Shelly Drefs, expo organizer and student career services assistant at MHC, said face-to-face conversations can help job seekers stand out in a competitive employment market.

“Many people spend hours applying online and hoping for a response,” said Drefs.

“Career Expo allows attendees to have conversations with employers, ask questions and make connections that can open doors.”

The event has also helped people secure employment, practicum placements, internships and volunteer opportunities.

Drefs said the event has come full circle when former MHC students return to campus as employers looking to recruit new talent.

“We’ve had alumni return to campus to represent their organizations and recruit future talent; it’s always rewarding to see those connections continue long after graduation,” Drefs said.

The Career Expo is open and welcome to the public and does not require an admission fee.
