Alberta NDP to hold ‘Vote to Save Canada’ rally in Medicine Hat Saturday

Oct 1, 2026 | 7:00 PM

The Alberta New Democrats are holding a rally, Vote to Save Canada, in Medicine Hat on Saturday afternoon.

It will include party leader Naheed Nenshi and Lethbridge-West MLA Rob Miyashiro.

The event runs from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Elks Club in Riverside at 305 Third St. NW.

Promotional material for the rally states that attendees will receive the knowledge, resources, and tools needed to educate neighbours and friends to mobilize the vote in favour of Alberta remaining a strong part of Canada and rejecting the rest of the separatist referendum questions.

The NDP is encouraging ralliers to show off their best red and white, and even wear a Canadian flag.

The referendum is scheduled for Oct. 19. Elections Alberta has published online locations of over 1,400 polling stations. A Where to Vote card will also arrive in the mail.

Advance voting runs Oct. 13 to 17, with 310 stations available.

Officials are expecting a record turnout.

Elections Alberta received roughly 658,000 requests for mail-in ballots by the Sept. 25 application deadline.

Elections Alberta says more than 652,000 special ballots have been approved.

More than 5,700 applications were rejected for reasons including elector ineligibility, duplicate requests and invalid addresses or other information.

Elections Alberta says the final batch of approved special ballots has been sent for production and mailing.

Electors should receive their ballots in the coming days, or be notified to pick them up at their returning office if they selected that option when applying.

The agency says delivery times will depend on the distance the ballots are being mailed and the accuracy of the mailing address provided.

All requests for delivery to international destinations have been sent by courier.

Meanwhile, more than 131,000 completed special ballot packages have been returned and validated as of Sept. 29, with those electors marked as having voted.

Elections Alberta says special ballots must be received by the deadline to be counted in the referendum.

Canada Post recommends that special ballots be mailed to Elections Alberta by Oct. 9 to ensure they are received by the Oct. 16, 5 p.m. deadline.
