Tigers suffer first loss of season 3-1 to Rebels

The Medicine Hat Tigers suffered their first defeat of the season, falling 3-1 at the hands of the Red Deer Rebels.

Liam Ruck scored the lone goal of the night for the Orange and Black, netting a short-handed breakaway late in the second period to knot the game at one.

Beckett Hamilton powered the Red Deer offense to the win, picking up two points, including the game-winner late in the third period.

Poul Andersen added an insurance marker with three minutes left in the third to seal the Red Deer win.

Medicine Hat struggled with penalty woes once again, heading to the penalty kill five times in the loss, four of which came in the second period including a five minute checking to the head major.

Through three games, the Tigers are averaging six penalty kills per game to begin the season.

Despite the loss, Carter Casey was excellent again in net, making 32 saves in the defeat.

The Tigers are back in action tomorrow evening when they battle the Edmonton Oil Kings at 4:00 p.m. MST to conclude their two-game road trip.
