Medicine Hat Mavericks support Strikeout Stigma Fund in honour of Mason Close
The Medicine Hat Mavericks are supporting mental health initiatives for young athletes by donating to the Strikeout Stigma Fund in honour of Mason Close.
The Mavericks donated proceeds from a 50/50 draw held during their June 6 game against the Moose Jaw Miller Express to the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta, which will direct the funds to the Strikeout Stigma Fund.
Wendy and Shane Close, Mason’s parents, said they are honoured to see the fund continue his vision of supporting young athletes and making mental health resources more accessible.
“We just try and do what we can for the community. Whenever we see the sign, we just want to do what we can for whoever needs help,” Shane said.
