Alberta government investing $14M into sport and recreation facilities

The Government of Alberta is investing $14 million into 20 sport and recreation projects across the province, including The Taber Golf Club and The Brooks Community Football Association.

The government has allocated the funding through its Active Communities Initiative, its first grant program dedicated to sport and recreation infrastructure.

“I am proud to support active and healthy lifestyles for Albertan families through the Active Communities Initiative. These investments will enhance recreation opportunities and create lasting benefits for athletes of all ages across the province,” said Boitchenko.

Government officials estimate the 20 projects should stimulate more than $46 million in economic activity across the province.

Following today’s announcement, The Taber Golf Club will receive $348,469 to renovate its clubhouse and patio and add accessibility upgrades.

The Brooks Community Football Association will also receive $1.5 million to develop the Brooks Junior High School Outdoor Multi-Sport Complex.

The project will include an artificial turf field, sport lighting, spectator amenities and a field house.

Chestermere: $1.5 million

Drayton Valley: $1.5 million

Edmonton: $790,000

Pincher Creek: $750,000

Calgary: $750,000

Warburg: $700,375

Innisfail: $634,470

Neerlandia: $500,000

Red Deer: $499,802

Meadowlark Park (Calgary): $494,000

Elizabeth Métis Settlement: $438,750

Goldeye Lake: $267,723

St. Paul: $160,000

Tawatinaw: $65,000

Westridge: $60,953

Delburne: $50,864
