Medicine Hat council to consider Riverside Corridor, Heron Crossing and 2027-28 budget

Administration is recommending the project be deferred and that staff not proceed with further design or construction at this time.

Interim Director of Municipal Works Sandeep Pareek and Planning Engineer John Ashton are scheduled to speak to council about the project.

Council will also consider second and third readings of Bylaw 4893-2026, which would repeal and replace the city’s existing Subdivision and Development Appeal Board bylaw.

The bylaw’s first reading took place Aug. 17.

New business items include proposed amendments to the Public Member Appointments Policy, which governs appointments of public members to city boards and committees.

Council will also consider a request for municipal tax cancellations and refunds for a property at 623 4 Street S.E.

The Corporate Services Committee recommends that council not approve any municipal tax cancellations for the property for the 2016 to 2025 taxation years.

The recommendation notes the property owner did not file assessment appeals within the legislated appeal period for any of the years in question.

Council will also receive an early look at the 2027-28 budget.

Director of Finance Lola Barta will provide a presentation to council for information only, meaning no decision is being requested as part of the agenda item.

Before the public portion of the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m., council is scheduled to move into closed session at to discuss several matters subject to the Access to Information Act.

Those include Heron Crossing, an inter-municipal committee meeting debrief, the 2027-28 budget and a land discussion.

The next regular city council meeting is scheduled for Oct. 5.
