Luke Cozens scored a hat-trick against his former club as the Medicine Hat Tigers defeated the Lethbridge Hurricanes 5-1 in their home opener.

The Tigers improved to 2-0 on the season with the win and outscored the ‘Canes 10-3 over the home-and-home.

Carter Casey had another stellar game, turning aside 30 shots, including 15 third-period saves en route to being named the games second star.

Gavin Kor picked up a goal and an assist and earned the game’s third star.

Luke Ruptash recorded his first-career Western Hockey League goal, ripping a shot glove-side on Hurricanes netminder Leif Oaten.

Logan Stuart scored the ‘Canes lone goal of the game, capitalizing on one of five third-period power plays for Lethbridge.

The Tigers power play failed to capitalize on three attempts, and their penalty kill killed off six of seven Hurricane man-advantages.

The Tigers are off until Saturday, September 26th, against the Red Deer Rebels, where they begin a brief two-game road trip.
