Tigers suffer first preseason defeat in shootout loss to Broncos

Sep 11, 2026 | 10:31 PM

The Swift Current Broncos overcame a late two-goal third-period deficit to hand the Medicine Hat Tigers their first preseason loss, 4-3 in a shootout.

“I really like the first two periods,” said Tigers Associate Coach Joe Frazer.

“[It was a] good learning lesson in the third period, I thought we got a little sloppy, and give them credit, they jumped on their opportunities,” he added.

After conceding the opening goal, the Tigers scored three unanswered goals to take a two-goal lead into the third period.

The Tigers outshot the Broncos 35-7 through the opening 40 minutes but were outshot 14-7 through the third period and overtime.

Swift Current’s opening two goals came courtesy of wide-open chances atop the crease, leaving Tigers starting netminder Cash Christie with little opportunity to make a save.

The Broncos third and game-tying goal redirected off the stick of Tigers defenseman Koray Bozkaya 45 degrees past Christie to knot the game at three.

Overtime proved fruitless before Broncos forward Ty Meunier won the game for Swift Current in the fifth round of the shootout.

Medicine Hat saw goals from Shaeffer Gordon-Carroll, Cam Parr, and Josh Evaschesen in the loss.

The Tigers and Broncos play the back half of the home-and-home tomorrow night in Shaunavon to conclude the preseason.
