Brooks RCMP report several incidents, including two assaults and impaired driving

The driver was issued an Immediate Roadside Sanction, resulting in a 90-day licence suspension, a 30-day vehicle seizure and a $1,200 administrative penalty.

The driver was taken to a holding cell and released once sober.

Mounties thanked the person who reported the suspected impaired driver, saying reports from the public can help police locate impaired drivers before a serious collision occurs.

Police also responded to an assault at the Patricia Rodeo Grounds on Sept. 5 at about 9:40 p.m.

Officers arrived to find an injured person on the ground being assisted by bystanders.

EMS treated the victim, while police gathered witness statements and reviewed video of the incident.

Two men were arrested in connection with the assault and later released on undertakings with conditions.

They are scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 18.

The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A separate assault was reported at the Patricia Rodeo earlier that morning, at about 1:24 a.m.

Police say witnesses reported a woman was struck from behind and repeatedly assaulted, causing her to lose consciousness.

Another person who attempted to intervene was allegedly struck in the head with a bottle.

RCMP continue to investigate that portion of the incident as an alleged assault with a weapon.

No charges have been laid in connection with that allegation.

The woman was taken to hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.

One person was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm. The accused was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 16.

The investigation remains ongoing.

On Sept. 6, police responded to a collision involving an electric skateboard near 13 Avenue West and Third Street West in Brooks.

RCMP say the rider crashed and was found unconscious with a head injury.

The person was taken for medical treatment and was later reported to be in stable condition.

Police are reminding people using bicycles, scooters, skateboards and other personal transportation devices to remain aware of their surroundings and use appropriate safety equipment.

And on Sept. 7, Brooks RCMP responded to a collision involving several parked vehicles.

Witnesses identified the driver, whom police say initially left the roadway and struck two parked vehicles in a driveway.

The driver then allegedly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, crossing the roadway and striking additional parked vehicles before coming to rest against a fence.

Police say the driver was operating with a Class 7 learner’s licence.

The driver was issued four violation tickets for distracted driving, failing to ascertain sufficient space for movement, operating as a learner without proper supervision and careless driving.

Mounties are reminding Class 7 drivers to follow all learner restrictions, including the requirement to have a properly licensed supervising driver when operating a vehicle.
