Brooks woman charged in lengthy oilfield fraud investigation
A 67-year-old Brooks woman has been charged following an RCMP investigation into more than $600,000 in alleged fraudulent transactions involving a local oilfield company.
Brooks RCMP received a report of suspected fraud from the business on Aug. 1, 2024, after the company discovered several handwritten cheques made payable to its bookkeeper.
Each cheque was for less than $1,000 and allegedly contained signatures not authorized by the company owner.
The company then reviewed its financial records dating back to 2017 and identified additional transactions of concern.
