Dressler said the economic impact extends to a range of local businesses.

“Every filled hotel room, restaurant visit, fuel purchase, retail transaction, and local attraction visit represents new dollars coming into our community,” Dressler said.

“That spending supports local jobs, strengthens businesses, and reinforces the value of investing in initiatives that attract visitors to Southeast Alberta.”

The Chamber says approximately 1,500 volunteers helped stage the Games, allowing visitors to experience Medicine Hat’s facilities, attractions, hospitality and business community.

It says hosting an event of the Games’ size could also help position the region for future sporting events, conferences, festivals and tourism opportunities.

The Chamber is also crediting the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games Medicine Hat 2026 board of directors, organizing committee, sponsors and community partners for their work.

“The Special Olympics Canada Summer Games Medicine Hat 2026 Board and organizing committee have left a lasting legacy for our community,” Dressler said.

“On behalf of the business community, we extend our sincere congratulations and gratitude for their vision, dedication, and countless volunteer hours. Their efforts not only create an unforgettable experience for athletes and visitors but also deliver meaningful benefits to our local economy and community.”

The Southeast Alberta Chamber of Commerce says the Games demonstrated the region’s ability to host a nationally significant event while highlighting sport, inclusion and community spirit.
