Man dead after Brooks RCMP officer-involved shooting during warrant arrest

Jul 16, 2026 | 6:51 AM

A man is dead following an officer-involved shooting during a warrant apprehension effort in Brooks.

RCMP say officers were conducting the arrest operation in the Greenbrook Village area at about 4 p.m. on July 15 when they attended a residence and attempted to arrest a wanted man.

Police say the man attempted to flee, leading to a confrontation where he allegedly produced a weapon.

An officer then discharged their service firearm.

Mounties say officers immediately provided life-saving measures, but the man died from his injuries at the scene.

No officers were injured during the incident.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been deployed to conduct an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The RCMP says it will fully support ASIRT’s investigation and has also started its own internal review.

That review will examine the events leading up to the shooting, including police response, training, policy and the officer’s duty status.

The RCMP says incidents involving the use of force are difficult for everyone involved and that it remains committed to accountability and transparency.
