An 11-year-old child was taken to hospital in the afternoon on Monday following an incident at Echo Dale Regional Park, prompting the park’s closure and an ongoing investigation by the Medicine Hat Police Service.

Police said officers responded at about 2:17 p.m. to a report of a missing child at the park, and the child was located at about 3:30 p.m. and taken to hospital by EMS.

The child’s family has been notified, and police said the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.

Police have not released further details out of respect for the privacy of the child and family.

“Our thoughts are with the child’s family, classmates, school staff, and all those affected by this serious incident,” the Medicine Hat Police Service said in a statement.

The City of Medicine Hat announced earlier on Monday afternoon that Echo Dale Regional Park had been closed until further notice due to the incident.

City officials later confirmed the park will remain closed while the investigation continues.

HALO Air Ambulance said HALO-1 was dispatched to assist police with a search-and-rescue mission at the park.

More information will be shared when details become available.
