Medicine Hat Tigers sign 2025 U.S. Prospect Draft first-round pick Burmis

May 8, 2026 | 2:36 PM

The Medicine Hat Tigers have signed their first-round pick from the 2025 U.S. Prospect Draft to a WHL Scholarship & Development Agreement.

Jake Burmis, a 2010-born defenceman from Rogers, Minn., had 27 points, with four goals in 27 high school hockey games during the 2025/26 season at Rogers High.

Tigers assistant general manager Bobby Fox says that Burmis is a smooth-skating, puck-moving offensive defenseman.

“He plays with excellent poise and vision, consistently creating scoring chances all over the ice through his passing and skating ability,” Fox said in a statement from the team.

“We’re extremely excited about his addition to the group and see him as a key piece on our backend moving forward.”

The 5-foot-10, 161-pound defenceman was the 16th pick in the 2025 U.S. Prospect Draft. The Tigers also selected forward Bauer Sullivan with the 32nd pick in that draft, who has not yet signed with the Tigers.
