Medicine Hat Tigers captain Bryce Pickford named WHL Player of the Week

Dec 9, 2025 | 3:09 PM

Fresh off a seven-goal weekend, Medicine Hat Tigers captain Bryce Pickford has been named Western Hockey League Player of the Week.

Pickford is the second Tiger this season to be named Player of the Week (Liam Ruck, November 17th, 2025).

“It feels good to get recognized, but without my team, I wouldn’t have been able to do that,” said Pickford.

The recognition came on the same day that Hockey Canada announced their roster for the 2026 World Junior Hockey Championships in Minnesota, with Pickford, who leads all Canadian Hockey League defensemen in goals, a notable omission.

“It sucks not getting recognized for the year I’m having, but I’m not going to let that affect me.”

“It definitely fires me up, and I’ll have that in the back of my head going into games,” he added.

Pickfords’ 20 goals are the second most amongst all WHL skaters and is tied for fifth most across the entire CHL.

Bryce also leads the Tigers in game-winning goals this season with four, including the overtime winner last Friday night against the Moose Jaw Warriors.

Moose Jaw will look to get its revenge on the red-hot Tigers this coming Friday night when the two clubs square off for the second time in as many weeks inside Co-op Place.
