Medicine Hat Jr. Mavs will look for redemption in Little League finals

Jul 22, 2025 | 3:33 PM

The Medicine Hat Jr. Mavs are headed to the finals of the Canadian Little League Intermediate Championships in Kingston, Ontario.

The Jr. Mavs representing Alberta Little League defeated Ontario Little League 7-6 Tuesday in the semi-final.

In the finals, they will face B.C. Little League who defeated Little League Kingston 12-1 in the other semi-final.

The Jr. Mavs know they will have to be at the top of their game to beat the B.C. team.

Player Reid Pluta said they didn’t play great when they met B.C. in the pool play.

“We were just not playing really good against them. We had a couple errors, didn’t hit really good,” Pluta had said in an interview Monday.

Coach Trevor Bishop agreed that the team struggled in their first game with B.C.

“We had a little bit of a tough time there with B.C. which I think you know all in all that’s probably a good thing for us,” Bishop said.

“A good learning lesson the boys learned some things and now we know where we need to improve.”

For the returning players Bishop said redemption from last years loss to B.C. is on a lot of the players mind.

“I believe there’s nine returnees on the team,” Bishop said.

“There is definitely that strong feeling in the boys that they want back at that final and they want redemption,” he added.

“I’ve heard it come up numerous times.”

The championship game goes tomorrow at 10 a.m.

On the line is also a spot representing Canada at the 2025 Intermediate 50/70 World Series in Livermore, Calif. from July 27-Aug. 3.
