Medicine Hat in top five for auto theft in Alberta

Recently released data from the Insurance Bureau of Canada shows that the cost of auto theft continued to climb in Alberta in 2024, and is up dramatically over the past three years.
Auto theft claims costs in the province were $110.3 million in 2024 compared to $67 million in 2021, an increase of 65 per cent.
The top five Alberta communities with an increase in auto theft from 2021 to 2024, in order where Calgary, Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray and Medicine Hat.
The fifth place Medicine Hat has seen a 36 per cent increase overall from 2021 to 2024.
