Here is what’s on this weekend in Medicine Hat and area: April 25-27

The warm weekends have arrived and there’s lots going on.

Friday will bring a high of 19 C, Saturday will top out at 21 C and Sunday is poised to reach 23 C, according to the Environment Canada forecast for Medicine Hat.

Here is what’s on this weekend.

🏇 Indoor rodeo

All weekend

The first major Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede event has arrived.

The Broncs and Honky Tonks Indoor Spring Rodeo is running all weekend long at the Cypress Centre Fieldhouse.

Tickets are $30 all in and can be purchased on the Stampede website.

The rodeo gets underway Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

“Down in the Dirt Dancing” is scheduled for after the Friday and Saturday rodeo performances, as well.

🐅 Tigers playoff run continues

Friday, Saturday

The Medicine Hat Tigers are continuing a deep playoff run.

This weekend they will kick off their third series in search of the WHL Eastern Conference crown.

The Tigers will take on the Lethbridge Hurricanes, a familiar opponent they beat five times out of eight matchups during the regular season.

Game 1 is Friday and Game 2 is Saturday. Both get underway at 7 p.m. at Co-op Place.

Tickets can be purchased either online at Tixx.ca or in-person at the Co-op Place box office.

🏊‍♀️ Monthly free swim

Saturday

The monthly free swim presented by the Kinsmen Club of Medicine Hat is taking place this weekend.

It runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday at the Big Marble Go Centre’s Kinsmen Aquatic Park.

No tickets are required. Attendees are just asked to check-in with with customer service.

🪧 Smith office protest

Saturday

The weekly protests in front of Premier Danielle Smith’s constituency office continues this weekend.

Protestors are raising concerns over the Alberta government’s approach to coal mining, health care, a proposed pension plan and other issues.

The rallies are organized in part by the left-wing AWARE Medicine Hat group and a loose assortment of local progressive leaders.

🌎 Earth Day activities

Saturday

Families are invited to Police Point Park this weekend for an Earth Day Bash hosted by the Medicine Hat Interpretive Program.

There will be free, family-friendly activities, a chance to win prizes and special guests will be in attendance, organizers say.

The bash runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

🚮 Litter Blitz Campaign

Saturday and all week

The City of Medicine Hat’s Litter Blitz campaign held in recognition of Earth Day kicks off on Saturday.

The annual campaign aims to enhance the city’s natural beauty and empowering residents to be environmental stewards.

The blitz kicks off with the Earth Day Bash at Police Point Park beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Litter Blitz participants can enter for a chance to win a prize by sharing a photo of themselves, their family, friends, or organization picking up litter around the community, and tag the City on Facebook or Instagram.

Litter Blitz supplies can also be picked up weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Parks Recreation office at 88 Kipling Street all season, as well as the Police Point Park Interpretive Centre and Big Marble Go Centre until Saturday, May 3.

🏛 ASA’s 50th Anniversary Conference

All Weekend

The South East Alberta Archaeology Society is hosting the Archaeological Society of Alberta’s 50th Anniversary Conference taking place Friday through Sunday at Medalta Potteries.

It will include presentation by leading archaeologists and researchers on recent discoveries and innovative techniques including a recent excavation in Medicine Hat.

Specialized workshops on flint knapping and rattle making will also take place.

A welcome night reception is underway Friday beginning at 5:30 p.m. with registration underway Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.

🌮 Drag show

Sunday

Kayla’s 30th Birthday Drag Me To Broadway drag show is on this weekend at a downtown restaurant.

The show is sponsored by Casa Amigos Cantina and SafeLink Alberta.

Each ticket includes entry to the show and lunch in the form of a taco bar provided by Casa Amigos Cantina, organizers say.

It runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
