EASTER

Holy week commemoration at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Apr 9, 2025 | 5:27 PM

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the south end of Medicine Hat is commemorating Holy Week by creating eight theme sites from that week throughout their church.

People of all denominations and faiths are invited to come view the displays, which will take about 40 minutes or less.

Communications director Bruce Hill said they start at the beginning of Palm Sunday, where Christ rode his donkey into Jerusalem and was greeted with palm leaves.

“”We’ve got venues like that for every day of the Holy Week to show what happened and to help us remember the significance of that event and that week,” Hill said.

The various sites include the empty tomb, Solomon’s Temple and professional videos and display boards to learn about the significance of Jesus and Easter.

Hill said they will have groups of about 15 or 20 people at a time, going through the displays every 15 minutes.

He adds that they really want the public to help commemorate Easter because if we didn’t have the Easter commemoration, Christmas wouldn’t be quite the celebration it is.

“The significance really comes, we feel, from commemorating those events, the resurrection, the atonement of Jesus Christ,” Hill said.

“People are just welcome here to come and take part in that and celebrate and commemorate those events with us.”

It takes place Thursday and Friday night from 6:30 to 8:30 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Saamis Rotary Way.

It will continue Saturday throughout the day.
