Search underway for new executive director for Medalta

The search is underway to get a new executive director for Medalta in the Historic Clay District.

The company’s former executive director Mike Onieu resigned in January. An associate director is in place until the position is filled.

Medalta includes a retail store where the production department creates items to sell and an event centre that is rented out for weddings and other purposes.

Plainsman Clay is a business that also operates under the Medalta organization.

The government funds about 25 per cent of the operations at Medalta through cultural and heritage grants, with a broad base of donors also helping financially.

Chris Christie, a consultant hired by Medalta to conduct the job search, said the company is looking for someone who is interested in arts and heritage, familiar with the not-for-profit sector and has management skills.

“I think people that thrive in the not-for-profit sector are innovators, they’re entrepreneurs, you have a lot of freedom to build and grow things in the right direction and be very creative in your approach to the work,” Christie said.

“If you’re that kind of person, but understand budgets and HR and those sorts of things, then this would be a great job for you.”

The job posting, published on the Medalta website, has an application deadline of April 25.
