5.2 magnitude earthquake rocks Peace Region Thursday morning

Earthquakes Canada is reporting a seismic event occurred at approximately 8:41 a.m., on Thursday February 20, 2025.

The earthquake shook at a magnitude of 5.2, stemming 63km NE of Grande Cache. It came from 8.5 km within the earth.

People in Edson, Grande Prairie, Whitecourt, and even Prince George, B.C. have reported it being felt.

There has been no reports of damages so far.

According to Earthquakes Canada, its magnitude scale says quakes between 3.5 and 5.4 are “often felt, but rarely cause damage.” A 3.6 magnitude earthquake last week in B.C. shook the ground in Victoria, Sidney and parts of Vancouver Island. Alberta’s most recent earthquake was a 3.7 magnitude rumble last month that was felt in Lake Louise and Banff.
