Gold medal winners back in the line up as Medicine Hat Tigers face Edmonton Oil Kings

A pair of familiar twins will be back for the Medicine Hat Tigers Wednesday night as they head to Edmonton to Take on the Oil Kings.

Liam and Marcus Ruck returned to Medicine Hat earlier this week after taking home the Gold Medal playing for Team Canada White at the U17 World Challenge.

The Ruck twins both finished with four points in five tournament games.

After beating Team Canada Red in the final which included the Joe Iginla of the Oil Kings, the Rucks will look to end up on the winning side again.

The Tigers have split the season series so far with Edmonton, winning the home opener 4-2 and dropping last Friday’s game by the same score.

Heading into the contest the Tigers sit two points ahead of Edmonton in the central division, but have played two more games.

Making a win in this division match up that much more important.

Markus said the tournament was a great experience, that should help them the rest of the season.

“Going and playing against our own age group gives us more confidence,” Markus said.

“Guys that are not as strong as this league, so you get to make more plays, you got more time,” he added.

“It was fun to get that and then coming back here, bring back the confidence and keep that rolling.”

Liam said it was a unique feeling to win gold representing Canada, especially being able to share that with his brother.

“Yeah, it’s unbelievable. Every guy there is excited to be there, but I think it’s a little extra special for us just having our twin brother there with us,” Liam said.

“It’s really cool, and we had a great time there.”

Markus said the winning aspect of the tournament is something they hope to continue with the Tigers.

“I’ve never felt anything like that, especially on the world stage,” Markus said.

“Just the feeling of winning is amazing, and you’ve got to buy in. That’s the main thing I took away.”

The Ruck brothers have played on the same team together, and line since they were four years old.

Playing most of this season on the wing, with Kadon McCann down the middle.

Liam is looking forward to the rest of the season with the Tigers.

“We’ve got a lot of great players. I like learning things from every single guy on this team,” Liam said.

“I think me and Marcus, we’re just finding ways to get more comfortable in this league, and that’s what we’re doing.”

The Ruck brothers missed out on the last game against the Oil Kings, but had success in game one of the season against Edmonton, both scoring in that contest.

The Tigers look to take back the season series, tonight at 7 p.m. at Rogers Place in Edmonton.

Will Bryant will have the radio broadcast on Wild 94.5 starting with the pre-game at 6:45 p.m., as the Tigers look to keep pace in the WHL’s Central Division standings.
