Nov 6, 2024 | 1:02 PM

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is travelling to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) today to discuss potential investment and economic development opportunities for Alberta.

While there, Smith will also attend the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC), a global energy event, where she is expected to meet with Alberta exhibitioners showcasing cutting edge energy technologies and services to buyers, plus visit with international partners.

“Not only is the UAE our largest trading partner in the Middle East, it is a global leader in implementing sustainability initiatives to enhance its oil and gas developments, while also aggressively growing entirely new economic drivers, such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and cloud infrastructure. Deepening our relationship with the UAE is critical to the long-term economic prosperity of Alberta,” Smith commented.

During her time, she will highlight Alberta’s efforts to become “the world’s most sustainable producer of energy,” with assistance from the province’s Emissions Reduction and Energy Development Plan ,which outlines the path to a carbon neutral economy by 2050.

Expenses for the trip will be shared online.

Smith’s itinerary is as follows:

  • November 6-7: Travel to the UAE.
  • November 7: Arrive in Abu Dhabi; Attend the ADIPEC; and meet with the Canadian ambassador to the UAE.
  • November 8: Tour Masdar City with UAE officials to discuss sustainability initiatives and meet with senior UAE officials.
  • November 9: Potential business roundtables and meetings and depart for Alberta.
