Nesta Hunter has hit the one-century mark.

The Maple Creek woman, a veteran of the Second World War and a war bride, turned 100 on July 12.

Hunter was born in England in 1924.

Later in life, she became a truck driver in the air force where she met Canadian James Hunter.

They got married and Nesta travelled across the country, her daughter Pearl Maser said.

“She was a war bride embarking at Pier 21 in Halifax and took the train to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, in 1945 with one child and another on the way,” Maser said.

“She helped with farming and raising children in the Swift Current area. She went on to have seven more children, eight daughters and one son.”

Nesta moved to Maple Creek in 1996.

“Mom was a hard worker and famous for her home-made buns; the family fought over them,” Maser added.

“She always seemed to have time for everyone. She loves pink and always looks beautiful.”
