Historic walking tours are underway in Medicine Hat, taking place for this weekend and running until late September.

There will be tours for both the Southwest and Southeast portions of First Street, and the railroad district walking tour.

Sally Sehn, one of the guides, said the tours touch on the architecture and bring buildings to life by talking about the people who lived there.

“With this year for the First Street Southeast tour we’re bringing along character actors,” Sehn told CHAT News on Friday.

A historic railroad district tour will look at the history of Medicine Hat, a city that was launched in 1883 when CP Rail decided to build a railroad bridge across the Saskatchewan River.

Booklets with descriptions of the sites on the tour are provided as souvenirs, allowing people to revisit anything they may have forgotten, Sehn said.

She added the tours are popular with people who are new to the area and want to learn about Medicine Hat’s history.

Tour tickets are priced at $20 and are available through Tixx.ca.
