House fire closes road in Medicine Hat’s North Flats area

A street in Medicine Hat’s North Flats neighbourhood was closed for several hours on Wednesday afternoon after a house fire.

Braemar Street Southeast was blocked off between Allowance Avenue Southeast and Washington Avenue Southeast for several hours as fire fighters responded to the fire.

The street had reopened by 9 p.m.

Residents on the scene told CHAT News fire services arrived around 2:45 p.m.

The family who lived in the burned out Braemar Street Southeast home told CHAT News they didn’t know what caused the fire.

The family was at a nearby park when the fire broke out.

They said the entirety of the second floor and most of the first floor was destroyed by the fire.

Fire services said Thursday that inspectors have not yet determined the cause.
