Top five things to do at the Medicine Hat library in June

Jun 1, 2024 | 7:00 AM

The library is a wonderful place to find new books, but there’s more going on than just flipping through pages.

Here’s the top five things to do at the Medicine Hat Public Library for June 2024.

InBeTween Movie Club

June 8, 2 p.m.

Join us for the first-ever session of the InbeTween Movie Club! We’ll be screening movies based on beloved books that we all know and love. A few days before, registered tweens will have the opportunity to vote for one of five classic picture books that have become movies and the winning film will be shown that day. Popcorn and water will be provided; please refrain from bringing outside snacks. Registration is required.

Study Lock-In

June 15-25, during The Honeycomb House hours

Are you a junior or senior high school student looking for a quiet place to study? The Honeycomb House will be open for quiet study from June 15th – 25th. Free snacks and refreshments will be provided to keep you fueled. You got this!

Get Outside and Play Day

June 15, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

A partnership between the City of Medicine Hat, Medicine Hat Public School Division, Bridges Family Programs, Medicine Hat Public Library and Sanare Centre. There will be a variety of outdoor play spaces set up for children to explore at Kin Coulee Park!

Experiences will include a mud kitchen with sand and water play, small world forest animals play and large loose parts adventure play. Play centres will be suitable for children 0-6 years old, but all ages are welcome to attend. We will also have a baby centre set up for the really little ones. Parent supervision and participation are required at all times.

Pride Month Speakers

June 20, 6 p.m.

This Pride Month we’re welcoming two speakers from the Prairie Pride Guild. First, come learn about the history of Pride in Medicine Hat from Esplanade archivist Jenni Barrientos. This will be followed by Kim Large speaking about her personal journey as a parent of a transgender child and how to support 2SLGBTQ+ youth.

Refugee Film Festival

June 22, 2 p.m.

In recognition of World Refugee Day on June 20, the library will be showing two films focusing on the refugee experience: From Sherbrooke to Brooks, which explores African refugees who travel from Sherbrooke, Quebec to Brooks, Alberta, and Seeking Asylum, which follows a migrant through the flawed asylum process in the United States. Discussion will follow each film.

Bonus: Speed Friending

June 22, 2 p.m. and Speed Friending (55+), June 26, 2 p.m.

Get ready to mingle at our Speed Friending Event! Join us for fun conversations, new friendships, and a welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re new in town or just looking to expand your social circle, this event is the perfect opportunity to connect new people. Registration is required.
