One of the biggest goals for the Sundogs has been to grow the game of cornhole in Medicine Hat.

They’ve expanded the dog pound from zero to 70 members over the past year and are now about to host their inaugural tournament.

Organizer Tom Simpson said it’s a good way for league players to step up their game.

“This is an opportunity for a different level of play. The pressure is on when you go to a tournament and there’s money on the line,” Simpson said.

The Sundogger Regional Tournament starts Friday at the Seven Persons Community Hall.

There will be three divisions to compete in, including beginner, intermediate and advanced.

Simpson hopes this tournament will help promote the game even more.

“It’s just growing and growing and it’s opened up so many doors we didn’t expect to encounter,” said Simpson.

“t’s got a great future, I guess, is what I like to think.”

To pre-register for the tournament, message the SouthEast Alberta Sundogs Cornhole League on Facebook.

The Sundogs also have a drop-in game tonight starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Medicine Hat Legion.
