WestJet Encore to offer one flight daily from Medicine Hat to Calgary starting in October

One of Canada’s major airlines has announced a revamp of its regional operations.

WestJet plans to transition its WestJet Link service to WestJet Encore.

It will provide regional connectivity on a De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft.

That airplane will provide about the same number of seats as Medicine Hat’s current service provides but now on only one flight per day.

The company says in a news release that the change will complete their capacity purchase agreement with Pacific Coastal Airlines and is in line with their regional growth strategy.

“WestJet will be working closely with the regional communities on this transition, which will in most cases see an increase in the number of seats offered,” WestJet said in a statement.

“WestJet is committed to ensuring that air access in these communities remains supported to achieve their economic and tourism objectives.”

Effective Oct. 27, WestJet Encore will offer one flight daily between Medicine Hat and Calgary.

Other WestJet services are impacted by the change:

  • Calgary-Cranbrook: 11x weekly
  • Calgary-Lethbridge: 1x Daily
  • Calgary-Medicine Hat: 1x Daily
  • Vancouver-Cranbrook: 3x weekly
  • Vancouver-Comox: 1x Daily
  • Vancouver-Nanaimo: 4x weekly

Anyone who has booked a WestJet Link flight on or after Oct. 27 will be automatically rebooked on WestJet Encore flights as part of the revised schedule.
